Nurse Practitioner:
The Nurse
Practitioner functions under the general Nurse Practitioner Standardized Process Protocol approved by the Interdisciplinary
Practice Committee. The Nurse Practitioner evaluates and treats patients who have undergone treatment for specialty.
Obtains complete histories and performs complete physical exam with assessment of normal and abnormal findings on new
patients according to written protocols. Obtains interval histories and performs pertinent examinations on return patients.
Performs or requests and evaluates diagnostic studies as indicated by evaluation of the patient according to written
protocols. Orders and furnishes medications according to written protocols and acquires counter-signature on prescription
from attending physician. Performs designated procedures according to written protocols.
Physician Assistant
The Orthopedic Physician Assistant functions under the general Physician Assistant Role Description approved by the
Interdisciplinary Practice Committee (IDPC). This job description identifies specific functions pertaining to the

Physician Assistant who is practicing at Stanford Hospital and Clinics (SHC) regardless of primary setting:

Orthopaedic Surgery, Palo Alto Medical Foundation (PAMF) or Sports Orthopedic and Rehabilitation

Associates. The specific functions are established by the physician assistant and his or her
supervising physician, and approved
by the IDPC, Medical Board and Board of Directors.
Qualifications:
